WCIT - Every pupil should have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument.

Our specialist teachers work with your pupils and classroom teacher to deliver high quality learning experiences.

About Whole Class Instrumental Teaching (WCIT)

  • WCIT and continuations classes are subsidised central government through Arts Council England, allocated to Musica Kirklees
  • teaching is delivered to whole classes of pupils (usually in Year 3/4) and must be free to pupils at the point of delivery
  • the class teacher should take an active role in the lessons
  • lessons take place within school curriculum time and can form part of the pupils’ National Curriculum music provision for one year

    What we offer

Our WCIT options give you choice and flexibility.  We are keen to work with individual schools to formulate an ongoing, sustainable programme to meet schools’ and pupils’ needs.

    Choose your lesson duration

You can choose your lesson lenght to fit your timetable, and your budget requirements.

We can customise the durations of your sessions (minimum 45 minutes).

Our WCIT programme can be for as little as one term, or for the entire academic year and beyond.

    Choose your instrument(s)

You can use your own instruments or we can provide sets of instruments for your whole class, and your class teacher, as part of your lesson package - FREE loan (subject to availablility.  Terms and conditions apply ).

You can choose from a wide variety of instruments, many of which come in a range of sizes suitable for younger pupils, or use your own if you prefer.  We also can advise on instruments for pupils with physical disabilities or SEN requirements.

The Musica Kirklees teacher will help with any set up or tuning required at the lesson.

    Benefits to pupils

WCIT offers pupils accelerated educational development and increases self-confidence.  Playing music boosts wellbeing and promotes good mental health.  It also helps in other aspects of development such as improved concetration, collaborative working skills, turn-taking and listening skills.

    Continuation after WCIT

WCIT (INSERT LINK) should be just the start of your pupils' musical engagement.  It is essential that schools, the Local Authority and music services work together to meet DofE's targets for continuation and enable pupils to build upon their WCIT experience.

Continuation can take many forms: clubs at school, individual/small group lessons and ensembles; our teachers can deliver all of these in your school.
