Instrument Care

Individual instruments: for one-to-one/small group lessons with Musica Kirklees, loans are £21 per instrument (2025-26)
Give it a Go instruments: free loan (servicing responsibilities listed below do not apply)
Schools/colleges will need to purchase any consumables (rosin, oils/grease, replacement strings and reeds).
For the period of the loan, schools/colleges will be responsible for any replacement or repair costs due to wear and tear, damage or loss (including where instruments are taken outside of school/college, e.g. for pupils to practice at home).
Instruments will be issued in a fully serviced condition. Schools/colleges are reponsible for a service and associated costs at the end of the loan period, and potentially throughout the duration of the loan if that period extends beyond an academic year.
All repairs, damage, loss or servicing should be reported to Musica Kirklees. We can facilitate servicing and repairs at an extremely competitive rate - please email [email protected] for details.
Delivery and Collections
Workshops: if large items or large sets of instruments are needed, there may be a delivery/collection fee. You are welcome to collect/drop off instruments at the Musica Kirklees office yourself instead (by prior arrangement).
All other whole class/group activities: instruments will be delivered at set times of the year free of charge. They will need to be stored at your school/college between classes, or may be loaned at your descretion to pupils for home practice. Collections are available on specific dates free of charge (you will usually be offered a collection date at the end of the Summer term). Deliveries or collections outside of the dates offered by Musica Kirklees will be chargeable. You are welcome to collect/drop off instruments at the Musica Kirklees office yourself instead (by prior arrangement).

Adaptive Instruments
Some instruments are readily available in different sizes. These have exactly the same configuration as full size instruments, but have smaller proportions that make them suitable for smaller players. Instruments loaned to schools/colleges will be of an appropriate size for the age group where possible.
Many pupils with physical disabilities or SEN are able to learn to play with standard instruments. If standard instruments won’t meet the player’s needs, adaptive instruments are an option. Examples include:
- instruments with inbuilt adaptive features - e.g. a clarinet with keywork designed for one-handed players
- adaptations to standard instruments through customisation or accessorising
- alternative ways of creating music, such as using music software and electronic tablets for SEN students
If a pupil in your Kirklees school/college would benefit from making music with an adaptive instrument, please contact us at [email protected] for more information or to discuss your requirements. Please give as much notice as possible of any adaptive instruments needed as the customisation process will take time.
