Adult Groups and Ensembles

Are you looking to join a community of music lovers?

Musica has five centres across Kirklees and runs a range of ensembles that welcome adults to come and make music. We pride ourselves on inclusivity and welcome singers and players of all instruments, abilities and musical backgrounds. Most of our groups are open to all ages from children to adults, but we also have some ensembles that are just for adults (over 18s). These groups have the same warm and friendly atmosphere as all our family groups but with the focus specifically on adult learning.

Below you can find a list of groups that are either specifically for adult learners, or that we've selected as particularly of interest to adults; please remember that adults are welcome at nearly all our other music centre groups as well so if you're looking for something else please check out our full list of ensembles available here.

Membership is invoiced termly (£55 per pupil per term 2025 - 26) and free for Kirklees Priority Passport holders.

Once you're a member, you can attend as many suitable groups across all our centres as you like, from choirs to folk groups, orchestras, big bands and more!

Musica African Drumming

6.30 - 7.30pm

Wednesdays (term time)

Richard Steinitz Building, University of Huddersfield

This group is open to any adults of all musical ability, including beginners.

All instruments are provided.

Musica Batley Community Choir

6.15 - 7.15pm

Thursdays (term time)

Batley Grammar School

We welcome new members age 9 to adults who would like to share their love singing. We sing a range of styles of music from show tunes to classical favourites. No singing experience necessary and we'd love you to join us.

Musica Mirfield Community Choir

6.30 - 7.30pm

Fridays (term time)

The Mirfield Free Grammar School

No experience is necessary to get involved with our group of 18+ singers. Anyone with a love of singing that would like to perform outside of their shower should consider joining us for a fun Friday night activity!

Musica Mirfield pBonium

5.00 - 6.00pm

Fridays (term time)

The Mirfield Free Grammar School

A fun and welcoming class for adults to play the pBone (plastic trombone). No experience necessary and we'd love for you to join us!

Musica Colne Valley Singers

6.00 - 6.45pm

Fridays (term time)

Colne Valley High School

All are welcome at Musica Colne Valley Singers. We have a diverse songbook, and have a close knit and community feel.

Musica Holme Valley Recorder Group

9.45 - 10.30am

Saturdays (term time)

All ages and abilites are welcome to join our recorder group and instruments are provided! Come join us on a Saturday morning for a relaxed session of music making

Musica Holme Valley Folk Group

11.30am - 12.30pm

Saturdays (term time)

Honley High School

Our folk group meet every Saturday, and regularly perform in Holmfirth and beyond! Some playing experience is required. We try to accommodate players of all instruments.

Members of any age or ability are encouraged to join us. We sing anything and everything from radio favourites to your own suggestions!

Musica Shelley Singers (Adults)

10.15 - 11.15am

Shelley College

No experience is necessary for either of our wonderful singing groups. We often sing together and with our talented Big Band, singing anything from classic big band to musical numbers.
