Your options for Exams and Assessments

When a student reaches a certain standard on their instrument or in singing, there is the option to take an exam to gain an accreditation at this level.

Assessments and exams are available to singers and instrumentalists at the early stages of their development all the way through to advanced levels.  Typically for Music GSCE a student should be around grade 4 to 5 standard on their instrument and for A-Level they should be around grade 7 and 8.

Whilst not compulsory, exams and assessments can give pupils a learning goal that will build their confidence in performance and musicianship.  They are particularly important for pupils looking to study music at a higher education level.  Some also have the added bonus of being an internationally recognised qualification.

There are a range of options available and your teacher will help to you find the right path for your progression.  You should always speak with your teacher before entering for an exam.
