Itinerary:
9.00 - 10.00am: Curriculum Toolkit
By strengthening subject knowledge and core pedagogical skills, this session will empower you to lead music classes with assurance and originality.
We’ll explore practical, curriculum-aligned resources and activities to enrich lessons and develop pupil engagement.
Led by Peter Simons, award-winning primary music teacher and Musica Kirklees Assistant Principal
11.20am - 12.20pm: Performing with Music Tech
Introducing the right music tech to the classroom brings an opportunity for a fresh cross-curricular approach to teaching and increased inclusivity.
Using the free GarageBand app and iPads, we’ll get creative in this hands-on session that will show how pupils can interact with music tech, how it works in a classroom setting and ways to incorporate it into your teaching.
Led by Dan Johns, recording engineer and Musica Kirklees teacher
Break 12.20 - 1.15pm. Tea and coffee will be provided. There are onsite cafes or please bring a packed lunch.
1.15 - 2.45pm: Singing with Confidence
Discover how primary pupils and staff can develop confident singing.
This practical session will cover effective breathing, vocal warm-ups and body awareness to support healthy singing. We’ll also explore how children’s voices change as they grow, and how to select suitable repertoire for each stage of development.
Led by Sue Bennett, Vocal Strategy Lead at Musica Kirklees
3.00 - 4.30pm: Music and Language Development
Singing and music making are the most direct ways of developing personal expression, language, communication and listening skills. This is true for all ages, but particularly in early childhood.
In this session we will be exploring resources and techniques, such as songs, rhymes and musical games, to integrate music into your daily teaching. These will be both simple to implement and have a profound impact on pupils as they begin their educational journey.
Led by Ben Lawrence, Early Years Lead at Musica Kirklees
