What does a typical week look like in your life?

I'm training to be a teacher, so I'm currently working at placement school, busy planning lessons, teaching classes, and marking work. I still love to write music in my spare time since graduating from my composition course at the Royal College of Music.

What's your favourite thing about being a musician?

My favourite thing about being a musician, and being a composer in particular, is the way music can broaden your mind and open up so maby possibilites for you. I think music can give you a outlook on the world that is a bit different!

Which Musica Kirklees groups were you in?

I was mainly part of the Musica Youth Orchestra playing the clarinet, and I also enjoyed playing piano in Greenhead Big Band.

What is your favourite memory from Musica Kirklees?

My favourite memory has got to be performing at the Royal Albert Hall for the final of Music for Youth. Being able to perform in such a prestigious venue, to a really great audience, alongside my friends made it an unforgettable day!

What did you learn from your time with Musica?

Being a part of MYO really helped to prepare me for studying composition at university - it helped me to gain familiarity with other orchestral instruments and their ranges and techniques, helping me learn a lot about each family of instruments. I also learnt a lot about ensemble playing in an orchestra, thinking about how to blend with other players and my role within the orchestra.

Do you have any advice for the musicians of Musica Kirklees?

My advice would just be to get stuck in, make the most of your time in ensembles and lessons. It's such a privilege to play alongside musicians your age as well as such talented staff, and making music and being creative can be a really nice escape
