Happy New Year
Happy New Year to all of our members.  Firstly, I would like to congratulate all of our performers on another successful concert at Dewsbury Town Hall at the end of last term.  Each group played confidently and the standard of music was at an all-time high; well done to everyone involved.  Thank you to those of you who donated raffle prizes and bought tickets at the concert.  The money made from these supports our centre’s activities.
As always, the most up-to-date information can always be found on our social media pages so please ‘like’ us on Facebook (@musicabatley) or follow us on Twitter (@musica_batley).

Safeguarding Arrangements
Batley Grammar School have updated their safeguarding measures and a few areas have been brought to our attention.

Parents/carers are welcome to stay on site whilst music lessons are underway but must stay in an area supervised by Musica Kirklees staff; parent/carers are asked to either stay in the music room with their child whilst they receive their lesson, or wait in the tuck shop.  Please do not wait in any other area.  This arrangement needs to be in place up to 5.15pm by which time Batley Grammar School students will have left the school premises.

Batley Grammar School have stressed that they do not want this to interrupt anything we do during our time at the school.  The safeguarding of all pupils must always come first, so we appreciate your support in this matter.
Batley Big Sing
We are excited to be running the Batley Big Sing again this year.  This is its 7th year, and we hope to engage with many local primary and secondary schools in this massed singing event.  This celebration of music making in Batley will be held at Batley Grammar School on March 23.  Our Youth Choir are performing at this event (see details below).
Music for Youth
Two of our groups are involved in this year’s Music for Youth Regional Festival at Colne Valley High School.  The String Orchestra and Rock Group are joining forces to represent Musica Batley (see details below).
Spring Concerts
As in previous years, we have decided to split the end of term Spring Concert.  The Strings, Choirs and Guitars will all have their concert at Oakwell Hall on March 26, whilst the other groups rehearse at Batley Grammar School as normal, and when the Rock School, Wind Bands and Jazz Bats have their concert at St Thomas’ Church on April 2, the other groups will have their final rehearsal at Batley Grammar School as normal.  This enables our groups to play in venues that suit the acoustics of the groups, and for the audiences to enjoy a longer, more intimate programme from our musicians.
