MusicAwards - Foundation Award

Coming soon!

Learning to play an instrument can feel like a big step, with a whole new world of musical terms, notes, techniques and ideas to explore.

Early learners should be given their moment to shine and acknowledge the progress that they are making.  This is how the MusicAward Foundation Award was developed (available to Musica Kirklees Option A/B/C/D instrumental pupils only).

From a solid foundation you can build your skills to the next level - and the sky's the limit!

The Foundation Assessment

This is a FREE assessment provided by your Musica Kirklees teacher.  It is not a qualification/graded exam, but we hope that it will demonstrate to pupils just how much they have learnt, and help them to celebrate their progress.

These awards offer a confidence boost and goal, without the additional cost of taking an official Preparatory Test or Initial Exam (these exams are also an option available to you - please speak to your teacher if you'd like details).

There are no deadlines or formal assessments for the Foundation Award; the process is very supportive and inclusive.  Pupils will work through a booklet of 'I can' challenges with their teacher and at their own pace.  When all the challenges are completed, they'll receive a certificate.

There'll be different challenges for each instrument.  Here are just a few of them to give you an idea of what you can look forward to achieving:

I can hold my instrument correctly/use correct posture

I can read, name and play musical notes

I can name the parts of my instrument

I can explain basic musical terminology

I can recognise basic musical signs and symbols

I can play pieces for my teacher

I can perform for my family or in a group

I can play the initial scales and arpeggios for my instrument
