Musica Holme Valley Newsletter - Autumn 2019

Welcome back to the new term! As you know Musica Holme Valley will now be happening at Honley High School.  There has been a lot to sort out in just a few weeks but I would like to reassure you that everything will be running as usual and sincerely thank everyone for being so supportive and making the transition to our new home so smooth.  This is a real opportunity to further develop our partnership with Honley High School whilst not forgetting the important relationships we have with Holmfirth High and all the surrounding schools in the wider area.

We start the year with the amazing opportunity to have our music recorded!  We will be working with Tim Goddard, a sound engineer who has worked with Mr Bateman and produced some of his own album releases.  It will be a valuable experience for all our students to see what is involved in the recording process and to appreciate the music they have been working on from a listener’s perspective.  The fruits of our labour will hopefully be available to purchase as a CD and also as a download.  A Christmas present idea maybe?  The recording session will take place on the last weekend in September at Hade Edge Band Room.  For each group’s recording time and how this will affect our Saturday rehearsal, please see the Dates for your Diary section below.  We do hope that everyone can be there!

Congratulations to all the students who worked so hard for their music grade exams, GCSEs, vocational qualifications and A levels last term. We hope your achievements will help you to move on to the next stage of life's intricate journey and very much hope those who are leaving us will keep in touch.

We like to think that our move to Honley High School will encourage some new members to join our vibrant, family centre.  Please see Mrs Cieciala, our Musica Holme Valley Co-ordinator, if you'd like to know more about the groups on offer or download the timetable here https://www.musicakirklees.org/get/file//content_media/5d5d46544933b_Holme_Valley.pdf.

Anyone can join our Musica Kirklees ensembles whether they have lessons with us or not.  We have orchestras, choirs, ensembles and bands for all ages and abilities, including musicianship classes for younger children (babies from birth to age seven) at Songbirds.  We will be having an Open Day on Saturday, October 5 – please invite any friends or family who might be interested in joining our centre.  If they’ve never been registered with a Musica Kirklees centre, they can join us for free up until Christmas and give it a go.  Do please encourage your friends to come along.

Please help us by regularly checking your emails for letters and concert notifications throughout the term.  We will be sending engagement notices and newsletters for those who have opted in to receive email communications to keep you informed of all our events and performances.  You can also follow us on Twitter or view the Musica Holme Valley Facebook page for weekly updates. The events page on the Musica Kirklees website is always a good place to find out what is happening musically in the wider area too.

On behalf of the whole teaching team, we are very much looking forward to the year ahead and have been planning some exciting projects for everyone. We can't wait to get busy and look forward to seeing you soon!

Best wishes

Ginette Eady

UNIFORM REMINDER

Junior Strings, Junior Guitars and Wind Wizards wear black Musica Holme Valley polo shirts for concerts with smart black trousers or skirts and black shoes.

All other groups wear all black for concerts and festivals.

Musica Holme Valley hoodies are also available and may be worn as a leisure garment and at concerts and outside performances too.

Polo shirts and hoodies are available in all sizes £10 and £15 respectively.  Please see Mrs Cieciala at the front desk in the dining room regarding uniform orders.

TUCK SHOP HELPERS NEEDED!

Do you have an hour or two to offer your services to help out with the tuck shop?  We have a rota system for volunteers so if you could help out while your child is rehearsing we would really appreciate your efforts. It is a great way to get involved in our centre and meet everyone.  Please see Mrs Cieciala to volunteer.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

Saturday and Sunday September 28 and 29

Musica Holme Valley 'Recording Project' at Hade Edge Band Room

We are very grateful to Hade Edge Band Room for the use of their purpose built recording facility for this project.

We are on a tight turnaround time wise so request that everyone arrives on time and tunes up ready to play.  We will not be able to allow any waiting in the building as it will create extra background noise so we respectfully ask that everyone is picked up promptly at the end of each session.

There are no dress requirements for this event although we may take some photographs for publicity on the day.

Please check the schedules below carefully for information for your group(s).

Most of our groups will have rehearsals on Saturday, September 28, as well as their recording session. These are some exceptions and some changes to rehearsal times so please read both timetables carefully.

Groups that are rehearsing and recording on Saturday will rehearse at Musica Holme Valley (Honley High School) and then make their way to the Band Room for their designated arrival time.
