MUSICA COLNE VALLEY NEWSLETTER

SPRING TERM 2020
Welcome Back
I hope you all had a good Christmas break, and, like me, are looking forward to a very busy term of music making with Musica Colne Valley.   Welcome to all our new members; I hope you are enjoying your first of many terms here.

Christmas Concert
It seems a long time ago now but can I say a huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who was involved in the Christmas Concert. I thought it was a terrific event and I thoroughly enjoyed being part of it.

Soloist Evening
This will be the first time that Musica Colne Valley have run a Soloist Evening.  It is intended to give our young musicians the opportunity to hone their skills and gain experience from performing in front of others.  Admission to the concert is just £2 (FREE to students so please come along to support your peers!).

Music for Youth
Music for Youth Regional Festival will take place on March 14 and 15 at Colne Valley High School.  Unfortunately, the festival is oversubscribed this year which has meant that not all our groups were allocated a place.  The groups who did get a place are the Intermediate Wind Band, Big Band, Senior Guitars and the String Trio.  They will be performing on Saturday, March 14, although precise timings are not known as yet. The Senior Wind Band will have the opportunity to submit a recording of their performance.
If anyone can spare a bit of time on Saturday, March 14, the Friends of Musica Colne Valley would appreciate any help you could offer in running the refreshment stall.
Big Sing
Following on from last year’s very successful event, Musica Colne Valley is once again playing host to young singers from our local Primary Schools.  Children from St John’s, Nields, Golcar, Wellhouse, Clough Head, Cowlersley, Marsden Junior and Linthwaite Ardron will be coming together on Tuesday, March 31, to enjoy the Big Sing.  Our very own Children’s Choir will be performing too.
Tuck shop
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help out with the tuck shop.  There are still a few gaps and if they could be filled the Friends of Musica Colne Valley would be very grateful.
Kirklees String Day
Musica Kirklees tutors are running a workshop for bowed string players at Honley High School on Saturday, March 28.  The event starts at 1.00pm and will involve a performance towards the end of the day.  Letters with more information are available from Mrs Hutton-Searle and Miss Williamson.
Survey
Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our online survey.  It has certainly provided plenty of food for thought.  Results and responses will be available at MCV for your perusal.
